Since we couldn't celebrate with you in person, we commemorated your achievements with a live-streamed virtual ceremony and virtual reception activities! If you missed it on the 16th, watch a recorded version of the live stream below!

Anthropology Department Virtual Graduation Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, the Anthropology department will host a virtual graduation ceremony live stream and virtual reception events on May 16th, 12:00pm E.T.

CCAS and GWU will hold additional Virtual Graduation Celebrations during Commencement Weekend. You can find more info here.

You can expect an interactive 1-hour ceremony live stream , along with a number of post-ceremony reception activities you can join remotely. During the live stream, you will hear messages from Department faculty and a recitation of the 2020 graduates. Stay tuned for further details on streaming the ceremony. This event will be public, and we encourage you to invite family and friends!

You'll be able to stream the virtual ceremony from any web browser using your device's built-in audio. We'll provide specific instructions for joining each post-reception activity on this page as well.

Yes, we will post a closed-caption enabled recording of the virtual ceremony within two hours of the live stream. Once we have it up, you will be notified via email, so you and your loved ones can watch at your convenience. 

There is no RSVP needed and participation is optional. We encourage you and your guests to join us and view the virtual ceremony as we want to celebrate your achievements! Graduates are welcome to submit photos, video statements or written words about their time at GW using this form.

Of course not! You’ll have the freedom to turn the event on or off at any time by closing the browser window. All of the post-ceremony reception activities are opt-in only, feel free to stick around for one or all of them.

No, caps and gowns (also called regalia) are not necessary for the virtual event.
