Morocco (al-Basra) Remote Sensing, Topographic Mapping, and Excavations of the Islamic City of Al-Basra, Morocco

Advisors: N/A

The proposed research is part of a long-term archaeological investigation of the Roman-Islamic site of al-Basra in northern Morocco (ca. A.D. 400-1100). The research is directed toward reconstructing the urban center's economic and spatial organization during a period of major political and cultural change in North Africa in the first millennium A.D. The summer's fieldwork will focus on a magnetometer survey, topographic mapping, and test excavations, which are designed to shed further light on the organization of craft production (metal and ceramic) and the spatial layout of the large urban center
