This dissertation provides a description and analysis of social change in Pune, India by examining linguistic repertoires ethnographically in educational contexts. Drawing on two years of investigations that analyze how middle-class individuals use and evaluate Marathi, Hindi, and English, this dissertation contributes to ongoing debates about the implications, benefits, and compromises made in different language mediums of education in multilingual, postcolonial societies in today’s world.
